SHORT QUESTIONS:

Differentiate between the followings:
Command and statement:
·        Command is instruction given to computer to perform any task.
·        Statement is given to computer in the shape of a program to perform any task.
Numeric variable and string variable:
·        The numeric variable can obtain only numeric constant values.
·        String variable are used for string and non-numeric data.
Source and object program:
·        A programme written in a high-level language is called source code. It is easy to modify and understand.
·        A programme in machine language is called object code or object program. It is also called machine code. It is difficult to modify and understand.
Syntax error and logical error:
·        Syntax errors are caused by the wrong use of computer language
·        Logical errors are caused if the requirement of the problem is not properly understood by the programmer.
Direct and Indirect Mode
·        Direct or Compiler Mode is default mode in GWBASIC. It executes the command instantly when ENTER key is pressed.
·        In Indirect or Program Mode, programs are written and executed with “RUN” or “F2” command.

Define the followings:
Program:
·        A program is a set of ordered instructions written in a computer language
·        It is a step by step process of translating the solution of any problem.
Error:
It is mistake in any computer program due to which program does not give the proper results.
Programming:
It is a step by step process of translating the solution of any problem using computer language.
Operator:
·        It is symbolic command for actions that are to be performed on operands.
·        These operators perform mathematical or logical operation on the values.

What is computer programming?
·        It is a step by step process of translating the solution of any problem using computer language.
·        Computer needs instructions to solve any problem.
·        Programming languages provide facility to write these instructions.

Briefly explain the types of operators in BASIC?
·        BASIC stands for Beginners All purpose symbolic Instruction code.
·        It is a high level language developed in 1964.
·        Interpreter is used to convert BASIC program into machine language.
·        The operators are source code, object code, Direct and Indirect Mode, Variable, commands, statements etc.

What do the following commands do in BASIC? RUN, SYSTEM, SAVE, EDIT, DELETE, KILL, FILES, NEW, CLS
RUN:
It is used to run a program. F2 key is also used instead of RUN command.
SYSTEM:
It is used to exit from the GWBASIC.
SAVE:
It is used to save a program at any storage.
EDIT:
It is used to edit or modify a program.
DELETE:
It is used to delete specified statements from a program.
KILL:
It is used to delete the program files.
FILES:
It is used to display the list of files and folders.
NEW:
It is used to clear the contents of RAM to prepare it for new program.
CLS:
It is used to clear everything that is displayed on monitor screen but contents of memory are not erased.

How many types of errors are there?
There are two main types of errors:
Syntax Error:
Syntax errors are caused by the wrong use of computer language
Logical Error:
Logical errors are caused if the requirement of the problem is not properly understood by the programmer.

Write a short note on precedence of operators.
Precedence of operators defines the order in which an operation will be performed.

LONG QUESTIONS

Write the structure of GWBASIC programs.
     i.        Every Program statement must start with a line number in ascending order.
ii.        Line numbers should not be repeated.
iii.        Two statement can be written in same line separated with a colon (:) sign.
iv.        Every program should end with an END statement.
   v.        Order of line numbers can be ignored.
vi.        Variable can be used without declaration.
vii.        Enter key must be pressed after every statement or after making changes.

What do you know about the naming conventions in GW BASIC.
     i.        A variable name must start with an Alphabet.
ii.        A string variable must end with a $(dollar) sign.
iii.        A variable name in BASIC cannot have any space in it.
iv.        A combination of Alphabets and numbers can be used in variable names.
   v.        An underscore (_) symbol can also be used as a part of a variable name but not as first or last character.
